ASEAN and Norway to Forge Formal Partnership

KUALA LUMPUR, 5 August 2015 – Secretary-General of ASEAN, H.E. Le Luong Minh congratulated Norway for being conferred the status of Sectoral Dialogue Partner of ASEAN.

The 48th ASEAN Foreign Ministers Meeting (AMM) yesterday agreed to grant and welcome Norway as a Sectoral Dialogue Partner following its application early this year to establish a formal partnership with ASEAN.   

Secretary-General Minh conveyed the decision to H.E. Borge Brende, Foreign Minister of Norway in a bilateral meeting on the sidelines of the 48th AMM.  He noted that Norway already has substantial relations with ASEAN Member States and believed that this Partnership will further benefit and strengthen ASEAN and Norway relations.

Minister Brende thanked ASEAN for conferring the status of Sectoral Dialogue Partner and assured that Norway will work tirelessly to forge a stronger partnership with ASEAN. He also assured that Norway will collaborate closely with ASEAN to implement cooperation projects and development activities that will benefit the region.

ASEAN and Norway will commence discussions on developing the cooperation framework and identify projects and activities that will contribute to further enhancing the partnership.
